FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

        1.       Q:  How long did it take you to write Curse of the Jaguar?

A:  I started in January of 2009. I wasn’t ready to publish until the end of 2012. So about four years, though I did take almost a year break to have a my youngest daughter and refresh my brain.

        2.        Q:  How did you come up with your characters Christian Hunt and Kara Nichols?

A:  I got a lot of my inspiration for Christian Hunt through my husband, Shane. Originally I was going to have Christian’s eyes match my husband’s – gorgeous blue. But then when I started studying the eye color of jaguars I found that green would be a better match. A lot of Christian’s personality and wit comes from my husband as well. Though Christian is his own person. It started with hints of Shane and became who Christian is.
Kara was harder. She does have some similarities to me – loving chocolate and interior design, but she is of course her own person as well.

           3.       Q:  Why were-jaguars?

A:  I love big cats. And I wanted some aspect of people being able to take on the abilities and forms of animals. Somehow I stumbled upon the Olmec legends of were-jaguars on Wikipedia during my research and decided it would be a cool direction to take.

           4.       Q:  Will there be a sequel?

A:  Yes. I’ve already started the sequel to Curse of the Jaguar, tentatively titled Rise of the Jade Jaguar. There will be two to three books in this series, depending on how the story decides to evolve.

          5.       Q:  Who was the most enjoyable character to create and write about?

A:  Melanie Phillips, Kara’s best friend, was definitely a fun character to write about. She’s hilarious and witty and made me chuckle as she developed her own personality.

          6.       Q:  What was the hardest thing about writing a book?

A:  Well, I took the long road in writing this book, so several things made it harder than it had to be. But had I written down an outline and developed my characters BEFORE I started writing – which I didn’t – then it would have gone smoother. But it definitely was hard to find the time to write, re-write, and re-write with four kids under the age of 9 running around. I spent a lot of nights up late trying to get some writing down while the inspiration and ideas were flowing.

          7.       Q:  Why did you decide to self-publish?

A:  I tried to find an agent for about ten months before I began researching the self-publishing route. With all the resources available for authors in the self-publishing department, I decided that I would take that route instead of trying to convince a swamped agent to pay attention to me.

    8.   Q:  How did you come up with your pen name, Audrey Grant?

A:  After days and days of throwing around different names and trying to find one that I felt could fit me, I combined two of my favorite actors: Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant. It also was a bonus that my grandfather's middle name is Grant, so it has a family tie - something I wanted.

    9.    Q:   When will the other books in the trilogy come out?

A:   Book 2, Mark of the Jaguar, just came out! Yay! Book 3, Rise of the Jade Jaguar, does not have a definite release date. Tenatively, and this is subject to change, look for it to be released at the end of 2015.
